COVID-19 Continuity Library Resources

Library Services

As of March 30, 2020 at 5 p.m., and at the direction of the CSU Chancellor’s office, the Henry Madden Library building closed and all services moved to virtual services.

Virtual Service Hours: The services below are staffed M - F 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and noon – 5 p.m. on weekends. During these hours, service points are monitored by librarians who will ensure that your message is addressed or routed to the correct service.

On-demand research help from a librarian

Fresno State librarians are available 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, via our LibChat service , no appointments necessary. At all other times, LibChat staffing will be provided by partner libraries.

We are happy to answer brief questions or simple research inquiries by email. For more in-depth questions, please make an appointment with a subject librarian for a phone or Zoom conversation.

Returning Materials

All material due dates have been adjusted to August 31, 2020, please check your account to confirm. This includes all materials from Tech Lending. If your account is still listing material as overdue, please contact our Circulation team.

Tech Lending equipment and larger library items that cannot be returned in the book drop can be returned by appointment. Please contact or leave a message at 559.278.2551 to set up a time.

DVD Conversion to Digital for Faculty (Suspended)

This service is temporarily unavailable starting Monday 3/30/20. Please contact Terry Lewis if you have any questions.

Online Materials Request

Submit an online materials request for resources that you need for your courses. Our librarians will research availability and provide you with digital options.

Information literacy modules and tutorials

Tutorials to help you learn how to find, use, and evaluate resources to use in your research. Students may self-enroll in our Information Literacy Canvas course to earn badges as evidence of completing modules. Instructors may also assign these modules to their students.

Subject guides, class guides, research assistance, and other useful resources compiled by your librarians.

Chat Reference Services

The Henry Madden Library is one of many libraries across the U.S. that staffs the LibChat 24/7 Chat Reference Service. This service is ideal for research questions and general information.

E-Resources (books, journals, other databases)

All of our electronic resources will be available in the event of a closure.Search our resources using OneSearch.

Interlibrary Loan Services (Limited)

Due to the closure of many of our partner libraries, all requests for books and other physical items will be canceled at this time. Please hold your ILL requests until further notice. We are currently processing requests for articles only. However, this may change as new developments become available. Please allow additional time to receive these items.

Streaming resources

All of our streaming media resources will be available in the event of a closure.

Community Users

The library is closed to community users, including University High School students, until further notice. Please review the the President's update here. Community users will be unable to access resources until the library reopens. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Online chat reference and email services will continue to be available to community users.
