COVID-19 Continuity Library Resources

Library Services

As of August 12, 2020, the Henry Madden Library will be open with limited in-person services for current Fresno State students, faculty and staff. The majority of our services will continue to be conducted virtually. Please see below for the virtual services currently available to students and faculty.

Virtual Service Hours: The Virtual Services below are staffed Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. During these hours, service points are monitored by Madden librarians who will ensure that your message is addressed or routed to the correct service.

On-demand research help from a librarian

Fresno State librarians are available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., via our LibChat service, no appointments necessary. At all other times, LibChat staffing will be provided by partner libraries.

We are happy to answer brief questions or simple research inquiries by email. For more in-depth questions, please make an appointment with a subject librarian for a phone or Zoom conversation.

Returning Materials

All material loan periods have been adjusted due to the need to quarantine material for 7 days. Please check your account to confirm your material due dates at any time. Books can be returned via the dropbox just outside the library entrance. Tech Lending equipment and larger library items that cannot be returned in the book drop can be returned in-building during library hours. For questions and clarifications, please contact our contact our Circulation team or leave a message at 559.278.2551.

    • Stack items, scores, maps and gov docs: 16 weeks (students); 1 year (faculty)
    • Short term items (Teacher Resource Center, Petrucci, CDs, reference items, periodicals, etc.): 30 days
    • Reserved material: 30 days
  • Equipment:
    • Laptops/tablets/Headphones: 16 weeks
    • All other equipment (cameras, calculators, 3D printers, etc.): 30 days

Information literacy modules and tutorials

Tutorials to help you learn how to find, use, and evaluate resources to use in your research. Students may self-enroll in our Information Literacy Canvas course to earn badges as evidence of completing modules. Instructors may also assign these modules to their students.

Research Guides

Subject guides, class guides, research assistance, and other useful resources compiled by your librarians.

Chat Reference Services

The Henry Madden Library is one of many libraries across the U.S. that staffs the LibChat 24/7 Chat Reference Service. This service is ideal for research questions and general information.

E-Resources (books, journals, other databases)

All of our electronic resources will remain available continuously. Search our resources using OneSearch.

Interlibrary Loan Services (Limited)

Requests online 24/7. Electronic items delivered via email. Physical item pick-up at Circulation Desk 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Processing and delivery times may be somewhat delayed due to partner library staffing and hours resulting from the pandemic.

Patron Connect

Do you need to get in contact with a group in the library? Use the Patron Connect form to initiate your connection and deliver your message. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response -- all units are checking messages regularly.

Streaming resources

All of our streaming media resources will remain available continuously.

Community Users

The library is closed to community users, including University High School students, until further notice. Please review the Fresno State’s Fall 2020 Plan here. Community users will be unable to access resources until the library reopens. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Online chat reference and email services will continue to be available to community users.
