Extended hours in the Library this semester are generously funded thanks to Associated Students Inc., in partnership with the Fresno State Police Department.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I use the rest of the Library during the extended hours?
The Library expects a lower student population to utilize the building overnight. By narrowing the available space during extended hours, we can more effectively monitor the building for safety and security.
Why aren’t the computers, printers or other services available during extended hours?
With a significantly lower student population anticipated overnight, limited services allow for campus staff to effectively meet the primary goal of providing a safe and quiet space for students to study. Many of the Library’s resources and services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the website, library.fresnostate.edu. All Library services will continue to be available during regular Library hours.
I don’t have my student ID, but I’m a current student. Can I still get in?
For safety and security reasons, only current students with a valid Fresno State ID will be allowed in during extended hours. All ID cards will be swiped at the entrance before access is granted.
I’m a regular member of the community that enjoys using the Library. Why can’t I get in?
Space is limited during extended hours and the priority is to provide a safe and quiet space for students to prepare for final exams. Members of the community are invited to enjoy the Library during regular hours.
Will I be able to get help from a librarian overnight?
Librarians and other research assistants will not be available in person during the extended hours. However, you may use the “Ask a Librarian” feature at library.fresnostate.edu to contact a librarian at any time. Also available on the library’s website are hundreds of thousands online resources, course guides, e-books and more.
How is the extended hours program getting paid for?
This semester the finals week extended hours are being generously sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. Additional staffing and security support is provided by the Fresno State Police Department.
Is this going to be available again next semester?
This is the first time in the building’s history that the Library has been open 24 hours a day. We are carefully monitoring the success and popularity of this service and we will consider providing it again in the future if it is determined that this is the best way for the Library to support academic success on campus.
I have additional questions that aren’t answered here. Who can I talk to?
You may call the Library during regular hours at 559.278.2174 to speak with a representative, or visit the Circulation desk in the first-floor lobby.
