In 2005, Patricia Heiskell Hillman (Fresno State College 1949) and Eleanor R. Heiskell (Fresno State College 1947) established a fund to benefit the Library’s Teacher Resource Center. They chose this way of honoring their mother, Margaret Thomas Heiskell, who, in 1915-1917 attended Fresno Normal School, which later became Fresno State. There she received the education and training that allowed her to become a dedicated, inspiring teacher. Mrs. Heiskell inculcated a deep respect for education in her daughters and was proud that they and one of her grandsons, Kent Hillman, graduated from her alma mater, which prepared them for their own teaching careers.
Pat Hillman was a founding member of the Library Leadership Board and she and her sister made the very first naming gift to the Fresno State Library as part of the University’s Comprehensive Campaign. They felt that funding resources needed by aspiring teachers was a fitting way to perpetuate their mother’s passion for educating young people.
