Book Checkout and Material Loan Policies
The loan policies differ by your relationship to the campus and it's community. Click on a tab below which best reflects your status, for more information.
Student Loan Policies
Your campus-issued photo ID (Fresno State Bulldog Card) is required for all transactions. An additional government-issued photo ID may be required for some transactions.
Loan Periods
- 16 weeks for most books, scores, maps and government documents.
- 30 days for CDs, DVDs, videos, audio cassettes, items from the Teacher Resource Center, items from the Popular Reading Collection and most items from the VE Petrucci Library.
- 30 days for periodicals, reference items and microfilm.
- 2 hours, 1 day, or 3 days for Course Reserve items.
- 16 weeks for items borrowed through CSU+.
Maximum Number of Items
- 100 total items
Loan Renewals
- One renewal is allowed for items from the Teacher Resource Center, items from the Popular Reading Collection and some items from the VE Petrucci Library. No other items can be renewed.
- Overdue items cannot be renewed online.
Interlibrary Loan
- CSU+ is a quick and easy way to request books and media not available at the Library from other participating libraries.
- Items may be picked up at the Circulation Desk, 1st floor, North Wing.
- We offer Interlibrary Loan services for items unavailable through the Library or CSU+.

Lost or Damaged Items
- Cost of item + $10 processing fee for Library material
- $115 or higher for books borrowed from other libraries
IMPORTANT: Failure to receive a notice from the Library does not exempt you from any fines/fees.
Faculty, Staff and Retiree Loan Policies

Proxy Pick-up Arrangements
By completing a Faculty Proxy Request form online a few days in advance, you can arrange for someone other than yourself to pick up your materials from the library.

Community Borrower Policies
Your library-issued Community Borrower card is required for all transactions. An additional government-issued photo ID may be required for some transactions.
Eligibility
All California residents who are 18 years or older are eligible to purchase a Community Borrower card from the Library. Applicants must produce a current California driver’s license or California identification card and be willing to provide a Social Security number.
Privileges
Community Borrower cards allow non-affiliated community members the ability to check out library materials and access the campus wireless network. The card does not enable remote access to the library's electronic resources. Due to the limitations of our vendor contracts, remote access to most electronic resources is only available to currently enrolled Fresno State students, faculty and staff.
Qualified Applicants
Select groups are eligible to receive a free Community Borrower card, including:
- Recent Fresno State graduates (1 year only)
- Spouses & domestic partners of current or retired faculty and staff
- Students from other CSU campuses
- Students from Fresno Pacific University
- Faculty from UC campuses
- Faculty from community colleges
- Life members of Fresno State Alumni Association.
- Employees of U.S. Forest Service, California Departments of Forestry, or Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
Registration Cost
The cost for each card is:
- Community Borrower: $50 (1 year), $35 (6 months)
- Fresno State Alumni: $35 (1 year), $25 (6 months)
- Corporations: $50-$150 (1 year)
Corporations may purchase one Community Borrower card to be issued in the name of the corporation for $50 (employees must present proof of employment and the card to borrow items). Alternatively, corporations may purchase four individual cards in the names of the individuals or three individual cards and one corporate card for $150.
The person to whom the card is issued is responsible for any items borrowed using that card until the loss of the card is reported.

Public/Private School Teachers (TK-12) Policies
Your library-issued Teacher Borrower is required for all transactions. An additional government-issued photo ID may be required for some transactions.
Eligibility
All TK-12 full-time, certified public and private school classroom teachers are eligible for a free Teacher Borrower's Card. To apply, applicants must provide:
- a current school identification card.
- a current California's driver's license or California identification card.
- their Social Security number.
Privileges
Cardholders may borrow items from almost all of the Library's collections, including its main books stack, the Teacher Resource Center, Music & Media (Media, CDs & scores), maps or atlases, and government documents.
Loan Periods
- For all items, the loan period is 30 days.
Renewals
- One renewal is allowed, per item.
- Materials can have a renewal online or if brought in person to the Circulation Desk.
Maximum Number of Items
- Up to 30 items may be borrowed at one time.
Lost Card/Address Change
